Karen Loucks (Chester), MA, RCC

Karen Loucks obtained her Master of Counselling degree through City University in Victoria, BC. She is comfortable using several approaches to counselling, and adapts any or all of them according to the needs of the client. Approaches she most often uses include Narrative Therapy, Response-based Practice, Solution-focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Mindfulness-based practices. She is committed to learning about and looking for innovative ways to assist clients.

Karen’s approach to counselling is strengths-based, helping clients get at the heart of troubling issues. Her interests are broad and counselling areas include (but aren’t limited to!): grief – including complicated grief, loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, infertility, family systems, relationships, separation/divorce, transitions, and support for families of children with special needs. You and I co-create a customized plan specific to you, the client.

Karen has specialized training in working with complicated grief using a treatment approach pioneered by Dr. Katherine Shear. This treatment protocol was used for the first time in Canada at Victoria Hospice during her internship there. At this time, Dr. Shear’s approach is the only evidence-based treatment available for complicated grief.
