What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based counselling approach scientifically proven to be effective for anxiety and depression. It also works for matters regarding anger, chronic pain, low self-esteem, disordered eating and addictions.

CBT works by using strategies, tools and techniques to identify a problem and treat it deliberately and effeciently.  CBT strategies also help prevent the return of problem issues and relapse.

CBT focuses on the way people think and act.  The idea (and supporting research) is that our thoughts and thought patterns about a situation or circumstance influence how we feel, and thus, how we react/behave to the situation. Breaking down and understanding what and how we think, behave and feel, also allows to specifically target problem areas of thinking and acting, and begin to change these patterns.
