Amy Pinnell is a Registered Social Worker with a Masters in Social Work from the University of Victoria, specializing in the areas of addiction, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic recovery and healing. Her goal is to help clients uncover their innate capacity for growth, resilience, and self-compassion. She has experience in mindfulness, trauma-informed and trauma-focused approaches, as well as motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. She uses some aspects of yoga and somatic therapy (i.e. breath work, movement, body awareness etc.) into her counselling practice as she believes the body/mind/spirit connection is essential to healing and growth.
Amy specializes in counselling for problematic substance use/addiction, and has experience working in Addiction Outpatient Treatment programs, as well as Supportive Recovery programs. If you are questioning whether your substance use is helping or harming you, or if you feel like you are ready to make a change regarding your substance use, Amy can help. Whether you are seeking harm-reduction strategies, or have a goal of abstinence, Amy can work with you to better understand your substance use patterns and develop a treatment plan to assist you in reaching your goals.
Amy views counselling as a collaboration between a person’s expertise regarding their life experiences, and her expertise in psycho-therapy. Change is inevitable, but that does not make it easy.
