Janine Thompson is a Registered Social Worker working in Kelowna. She works with individuals and couples of all abilities, ages, genders, and sexual orientations. She is well versed in many mental health matters and uses a respectful, supportive, safe, and kind approach with each of her clients. Whether you have lost a loved one, are facing difficult circumstances or have survived a traumatic event, Janine will be by your side through your therapeutic journey.
Janine has attained over 13 years’ experience working in both the public and private sectors. She helps people through tough times, providing them the skills and methods to live their richest lives. There is no shame in asking for help and no better time than the present moment to find joy.
Janine specializes in working with people struggling with unresolved grief and/or loss of a loved one, depression, substance use, trauma, and post-traumatic stress. She also works with people experiencing other issues including anxiety, life-stage transitions, low self-esteem, survivors of abuse, anger management, parenting struggles, relationship, and family conflicts. She has training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Trauma-informed practice.
She achieved a Master of Social Work (MSW) in clinical counselling from the University of Calgary and is a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with the British Columbia College of Social Workers. Her education and experience in mental health and addictions have allowed her a considerable amount of knowledge in a variety of areas that impact mental wellbeing. Many extended health plans offer partial or full coverage for counselling services provided by a Registered Social Worker. Counselling services provided by a Registered Social Worker are GST and PST exempt and are included in the medical expense tax credit. Official receipts for both health insurance and tax purposes will be provided after each session.
