Couples Counselling using Gottman Method in Victoria BC

Lisa Kratz Provides Couples Counselling in Victoria BC

couples counselling using Gottman Victoria BCVictoria Waypoint Counsellor, Lisa Kratz, has recently completed the Level Three Training in the Gottman Institute’s method of couples counselling.   This method helps couples learn how their communication patterns create conflict and are coached into replacing these with more positive and empathetic interactions.  Counselling is aimed at helping couples enhance their sense of closeness and intimacy and improve their friendship.  Emotional connections are deepened and goals are created that are truly shared as a couple.
Lisa has been very fortunate to learn couples counselling directly from Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Julie Gottman. Dr. John Gottman’s  research and work on marital stability is world renowned.  He has developed a way to predict divorce with a 90% accuracy level based on the way a couple communicates! John Gottman has published many best-selling books including; The Relationship Cure, Why Marriages Succeed or Fail, What Makes Love Last, and The Seven Principals for Making Marriage Work. He is also listed in the Top 10 Most Influential Therapists of the past quarter-century by the Psychotherapy Networker. Dr. Julie Gottman is a well-known and respected clinical psychologist, and she is sought internationally by media and organizations as an expert advisor on marriage, same-sex marriage, gay and lesbian adoption, sexual harassment, rape, and parenting issues.

John and Julie Gottman to further develop her skills in couples counselling. She has been trained to provide couples counselling in Victoria BC by helping couples fix their communication styles and find more joy, connection, and meaning in their marriage. Additionally, she traveled to Denver to meet with and learn from Dr. Howard Markman, a former colleague of Dr. John Gottman. Dr. Markman along with Dr. Scott Stanley developed the PREP Relationship Approach which, just like the Gottman Institute’s method, is also a scientifically-based and empirically-tested method of relationship education designed to provide couples with specific tools and strategies to solve relationship conflict.
Lisa has been trained in EMDR, solution-focused, response-based, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EFT, Gestalt, strength-based, family-systems therapy, and many others. Lisa Kratz says, “I am very flexible in my use of scientifically researched and evidence-based therapies because each client has different needs. So, I custom tailor a unique counselling plan for each couple, and we use at least two different therapies, interventions, or techniques in every session.”
