Jonathan Watters is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) offering individual and couples counselling in the Sidney, Saanich Peninsula and Greater Victoria areas focusing on issues associated with depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, phobias, goal setting, goal striving, problematic habits and behaviours, trauma impact (PTSD), and more.
Jonathan uses a biopsychosocial approach to counselling, meaning he considers biological, emotional, mental, physical, and social aspects of life when exploring well-being and psychological issues. Counselling, to Jonathan, is a collaboration between you and a trained therapist. What works for you is what is important in creating a better version of yourself. We work on what is important to you at your pace.
When working with issues related to trauma, Jonathan focuses on first developing skills for self-care and accessing appropriate support systems. Once stabilizing skills are in place, a few approaches and techniques to work through trauma may include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE).
Jonathan uses a Solution-Focused approach. This means efforts are tailored to finding solutions that are practical, realistic and attainable for you.
Jonathan also has training in using the Gottman Method, which is a highly respected research-based approach in couples therapy. Couples learn to replace negative conflict communication patterns with more positive interactions and work towards repairing past hurts.
Jonathan currently offers counselling via phone or video and will be offering in-person sessions later in the year.
