Jonathan Watters
, MA, RCCRegistered Clinical Counsellor
Jonathan Watters is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in Victoria offering online and in-person individual and couples counselling. He helps clients with depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, phobias, goal setting, goal striving, problematic habits and behaviours, trauma, and more.
Jonathan uses a biopsychosocial approach to counselling, meaning he considers biological, emotional, mental, physical, and social aspects of life when exploring well-being and psychological issues. He sees counselling as a collaboration between the person and their therapist. When working with Jonathan, he works to create a better version of yourself, based on your priorities and at your pace.
When working with issues related to trauma, Jonathan focuses on first developing skills for self-care and creating and strengthening support systems around you. Once stabilizing skills are in place, a few approaches and techniques to work through trauma may include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE).
Jonathan uses a Solution-Focused approach. This means efforts are tailored to finding solutions that are practical, realistic and attainable for you.
Jonathan also has training in using the Gottman Method, which is a highly respected research-based approach in couples therapy. Couples learn to replace negative conflict communication patterns with more positive interactions and work towards repairing past hurts.
