Couples and Marriage Counselling
Many couples get assistance in maintaining their relationship because there are a multitude of issues which can come up between two individuals. Our counsellors are equipped with the tools required to work through any issues that emerge in a relationship and will provide you with strategies to overcome obstacles in the future.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
With years of research, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is proven to be effective in managing and treating such issues as anxiety, eating disorders, self-esteem, anger, addiction, chronic pain and depression. Together with a therapist, you will set goals and effectively address the issues at hand while practicing techniques which improve your ability to face challenges in the future. Our CBT counsellors will help you develop patterns that will replace your unwanted habits with healthy ones.
Stress and Anxiety Counselling
While anxiety and stress are constant realities of life, most of us are actually unsure of how to deal with these realities on a day to day basis. By understanding ourselves and our reactions to stressful situations, we can reduce both stress and anxiety by learning to handle them more effectively.
After taking the time to understand your family history and what is important to each of you, we will develop a counselling session catered to your family’s unique needs. Family members are able to decide whether to see a counsellor as a group or individually. At Waypoint, we are devoted to developing the best system to support your family’s wellbeing.
People tend to put off counselling until their issues get worse but the truth is, it’s helpful to start addressing things early. Keeping your life goals and aspirations on track is important to maintaining healthy habits and relationships. Upon learning our coping strategies, you will improve your resilience to all matters in life and cultivate a lasting impact on your happiness.
Trauma and PTSD
Trauma is most often stored in our brain following an event where we experienced a loss of control. If you have been through a car accident, physical/emotional/sexual abuse, victim of a crime, bullying in the workplace, repetitive discrimination or witnessing abuse, you may find trauma counselling to be very beneficial. Without professional help, Post Traumatic Stress may cause a person to continuously relive traumatic experiences for the rest of their life.
One of the most basic human emotions, anger is a normal response to feeling threatened by people or situations. While it might not appear to be a problem for you, you may find that anger effects the relationships you have with those around you. Often a person is not even aware of the source of their emotions. WayPoint can guide you in identifying these emotional triggers and cultivating a more steady emotional state.
Since depression is made worse by feelings of isolation, seeking out counselling can be very rewarding. Sadness can often be managed by taking such action as exercise or hobbies. However, when it feels beyond your control, it can be useful to get reassurance from your doctor and find out if you could benefit from professional help.
Addictions & Substance Use
Addiction can be described as needing a substance or activity to be able to cope with daily life. It can be present in many areas including (but not limited to) gambling, pornography, eating, internet, or drugs and it is often hard to discern when the dependence requires attention. Waypoint can complete an assessment to find out if your habits need to be addressed.
We welcome clients who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, or Transgender (LGBT) as well as individuals who are interested in finding out more about their own identity. Understanding sexual orientation and gender identity is paramount in tackling some of the challenges that LGBT individuals commonly face. Our counsellors are trained and experienced at supporting you without judgement and regardless of where you are in your journey.
